Description
It’s summer. And more precisely, the evening of July 14th. The twins are on vacation at their grandfather’s and the fireworks rockets light up the sky. The beautiful red! The beautiful blue! The beautiful yellow! Unthinkable to go to bed on a night like this, decrees the grandfather. The opportunity is too good, first to go see the fireworks from the neighbour’s balcony, and then, to tell History (with a capital “H”) like a story.
Or rather like stories. The storming of the Bastille, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, the guillotine… The astonished twins discover the violent birth of the Republic. A very short-lived republic since a certain Napoleon Bonaparte will quickly become the strongman of the country, seize all the powers… and proclaim himself “emperor”! From conquests to defeats, the Empire will end in disaster.
(Temporary) end of the story for the twins: it is high time to go to bed. But I promise, grandpa will tell them the rest. For ages 7 and up.
