Paris, May 1789: discontent is rising among the Parisian people. To address this crisis, the king has gathered representatives of the nobility, the clergy, and the Third Estate at Versailles. Young Valentin is very excited, as he has been granted permission to accompany his cousin, a member of the clergy, to these Estates General. This son of a Parisian craftsman is fascinated by the heated debates he witnesses. Revolts quickly break out in Paris… Within two months, they will lead the people, including Valentin, to storm the Bastille.
